Zipp 858 NSW D1 Front — ultra-deep, tubeless-only, hookless front wheel with 23 mm internal width and the patented Sawtooth (82–85 mm) rim for top aero and crosswind stability.
  • TSE efficiency concept; HexFin ABLC dimple pattern & Hyperfoil nodes.
  • Hookless / tubeless-only; minimum tire size 28 mm.
  • ZR1 SL disc hub, Center Lock.
  • Recommended pressures (28–32 mm): ~72–65 psi max.

What tire sizes can I run?

The 858 NSW D1 is tubeless-only and requires 28 mm or larger tires that are approved for hookless rims.

What are the recommended maximum pressures?

Zipp lists approximately 72 psi (5 bar) for 28 mm and 65 psi (4.5 bar) for 30–32 mm. Many riders run lower for best efficiency and comfort.

How deep is the rim?

The patented Sawtooth rim varies between roughly 82–85 mm for aero efficiency with crosswind stability.

Which hub does the D1 front use?

The current D1 spec uses Zipp’s ZR1 SL Center-Lock disc hub.

What internal width does it use?

23 mm internal, optimized around 28–32 mm road tires at lower pressures.

Overview

The Zipp 858 NSW D1 Front is Zipp’s deepest NSW front wheel, built to hold speed on flat and rolling courses while remaining predictable in gusts. Its signature Sawtooth rim undulates between roughly 82–85 mm, using Hyperfoil nodes and the HexFin ABLC dimple pattern to shed smaller, more frequent vortices—so steering inputs feel calmer even when the wind picks up. Under Zipp’s Total System Efficiency (TSE) approach, the wheel pairs a modern, wide internal profile with lower pressures to minimize wind drag, rolling resistance and vibration losses.

Rim & Tire System

This Zipp 858 NSW D1 Front uses a tubeless, hookless carbon rim with a 23 mm internal width, designed around wider road tires. Zipp specifies tubeless tires only with a minimum 28 mm size, and publishes max air pressures of about 72 psi (5 bar) for 28 mm and 65 psi (4.5 bar) for 30–32 mm. In practice, most riders will run lower than those maxima to unlock the comfort and efficiency gains the platform was designed for.

Aerodynamics & Handling

Zipp’s patented Sawtooth profile with Hyperfoil nodes and HexFin ABLC dimples is the brand’s highest-performing aero shape for stability in crosswinds. The deeper the rim, the more important predictable handling becomes; the 858 NSW’s variable-depth design is aimed precisely at giving triathletes and time-trialists the deep-rim speed they want with steering that remains composed when side gusts strike.

Hub & Brake Interface

The Zipp 858 NSW D1 front wheel is built on Zipp’s premium ZR1 SL Center-Lock disc hub for smooth rolling and easy service. The wheel ships for 12 mm thru-axles and uses standard j-bend spokes. As with all modern Zipp road disc rims, braking is rotor-based; there’s no rim-brake track to worry about when selecting tires.

Key fit notes

Use tubeless-rated tires of 28 mm or larger that are compatible with hookless rims, and respect Zipp’s pressure table. The 23 mm internal width is optimized for 28–32 mm road tires, balancing aero performance with lower rolling resistance and comfort.
