Small changes travel through fit.

A stem is both a fit and handling component. Length, angle, stack, clamp diameter, and stiffness all affect how the rider sits and how the bike responds. Shortening a stem can relieve some discomfort, but saddle position, bar reach, frame size, and handling changes still need attention. A stem can improve comfort, but it can also make steering nervous or weight distribution unbalanced. Torque and steerer compatibility matter, especially with carbon parts. If reach, neck tension, or hand pressure is the issue, look at the whole position before choosing a number.
