Useful bikes carry well.

Riders who have learned by doing choose racks by mounting points, load rating, heel clearance, brake type, axle standard, and the bags they plan to use. Rack fit is less universal than it looks, especially around disc brake clearance, thru-axle complications, or frames without eyelets. Weight should sit securely and as low as practical, with no movement into the wheel. The rack, bag, and bike form one system. If you plan to commute, tour, or carry groceries, think about the real load and how often it will be removed.
