Alignment is personal.

Cleats are fit components, not disposable plastic. Small changes in fore-aft position, angle, stance width, or float can affect knees, hips, and foot pressure. Installing by eye and hoping discomfort fades is a risky shortcut; sometimes the issue is simply setup. Cleats also wear, changing release feel or creating unwanted movement. Marking old positions before replacement is a useful habit. Knee pain, hot spots, or trouble clipping in and out deserve attention before they become part of the ride routine.
