The Force AXS HRD E1 Shift-Brake System is SRAM’s latest Force-level wireless control + hydraulic braking package. The E1 update brings the same modern hood shape philosophy introduced at RED, aiming to fit a wider range of hand sizes and improve control under hard braking while reducing the chance of finger pinch. The result is a lighter-feeling lever action and more powerful braking with less hand fatigue.
SRAM’s E1 hood redesign focuses on comfort and leverage: the lever body is shaped to support confident one-finger braking whether you’re on the hoods or deep in the drops. SRAM also highlights large tactile surfaces and textures on the hoods and shift paddles so controls are easy to find in wet weather or with gloves.
Force E1 uses SRAM’s AXS wireless ecosystem and eTap shift logic for intuitive shifting (right harder, left easier; both for front derailleur when applicable). Each lever includes a programmable Bonus Button that can be assigned to auxiliary shifts or to control compatible ANT+ head units.
For setup, SRAM builds in Reach Adjust so you can tune lever reach for your hand size and preferred braking position. The caliper uses Bleeding Edge, which moves the bleed port to the bottom of the caliper and simplifies fluid flow during bleeding for a more consistent, cleaner service process.
SRAM lists steel-backed organic pads and recommends Paceline rotors for this system. The Force E1 HRD controls are part of the AXS road/gravel family and are used across Force road (12-speed) and Force XPLR (13-speed) configurations depending on the drivetrain you pair them with.
