Overview

The ENVE AR40 is a modern all-road carbon wheelset offering a balance of aerodynamic efficiency, tire compatibility, and durability for varied road conditions. It features a 40mm deep rim with a wide 25mm internal profile, making it suitable for road riding, racing, and mixed surfaces.

Rim Profile and Tubeless Design

The wheelset uses a hookless, straight-sidewall rim profile optimized exclusively for tubeless tires. ENVE’s Wide Hookless Bead design helps dissipate impact energy and reduce pinch-flat risk. The recommended tire width range is 27–50mm, with a minimum 27mm tubeless tire from ENVE’s approved list. The ideal tire width for performance and comfort is 28–32mm and above.

Build and Components

Each wheel is built with Sapim CX-Ray J-bend spokes (24 spokes) and brass locking nipples, laced to ENVE INNERDRIVE Foundation hubs. The wheelset is disc-brake only with a Center Lock interface and uses modern thru-axle standards: 12×100mm front and 12×142mm rear.

Weight and Setup

The wheelset weighs approximately 1515g including tape and valves on a Shimano HG freehub. Front and rear wheels weigh about 690g and 825g respectively. Tubeless setup uses 29mm tape width and 61mm valve length. Maximum tire pressure for the minimum 27mm tire is 80 psi (5.5 bar), with lower pressures recommended for wider tires.
